THE 4th COMMANDMENT IN THE NEW TESTAMENT
THE 4th COMMANDMENT IN THE NEW TESTAMENT
Introduction

Y'shua emphasized the keeping of the Holy commandments of Adonai. Many who are seeking to justify themselves in not keeping the Sabbathsay that Y'shua mentioned the other commandments here, but made no mention of the Sabbath. They overlook the fact that the entire first four commandments were not mentioned here, and we all know that we cannot take the name of our Lord God in vain, and be guiltless.

Main Reading Matt 19:16-30

Memory Verse 24:20

  1. When a man came to Y'shua and inquired ''what must I do? what did Y'shua reply Matt 19:16-19                                Mat 19:16  And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
Mat 19:17  And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
Mat 19:18  He saith unto him, Which? Y'shua said Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

  2. When Y'shua spoke about the destruction of Jerusalem (which took place in 70 A.D) Did He ask  His followers to keep the Sabbath of the Lord our God? Matt 24:20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:
  3. what did Isaiah say that Y'shua would do to the law? Isaiah 42:21  The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness' sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable.
  4. Did Y'shuah emphasize the law? Matt 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
  5. On what day of the week did the holy women rest after the death of Y'shua? Luke 23:56  And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments, and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.

  6. How long did Y'shua say the law would remain? Matt 5:18   For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
  7. What day of the week did Y'shua say is the Lord's day? Mark 2:28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
  8. According to the Holy commandments of Adonai, what day of the week is the Sabbath? Exo. 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
  9. Was the Sabbath made for the Jew or  or for all men? Mark 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:
  10. Often we hear the Sabbath referred to as  ''that old Jewish Sabbath''-to whom does the Sabbath belong? Neh 9:14 And madest known unto them thy holy sabbath, and commandedst them precepts, statutes, and laws, by the hand of Moses thy servant:
  11. When Paul was hundreds of miles faraway from Jerusalem, away in Pisidia, was he still keeping the Sabbath, and on what day of the week did he go to Church while in this gentile country? Acts 13:14  But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.
  12. When Paul, the apostle of Gentiles (Romans 11:13) preached the Messiah, the Jews became angry and left the synagogue; what request did the gentiles make for further meetings? Acts 13:42-44 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.
Act 13:43  Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.
Act 13:44  And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.
  13. On what day of the week did Paul meet for worship when he was in Macedonia? Acts 16:13 And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a riverside, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.
  14. Did paul also keep the Shabbat when he was with the Christians in Thessalonica? Acts 17:2  And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
  15. On what day of the week did Paul worship when he was with the brethren at Corinth ? Acts18:4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.

NOTE Paul was the apostle of the gentiles, and he worked many long years among them. The records in the Bible prove that he was a Sabbath keeper, for he taught the law, as we read in Romans 3:31: ''Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid! Yea, we establish the law.'' Also in the 7th Chapter, he says that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives.
